MADE BY THE SEA

Made by the sea, on the rugged Isle of Skye, The Wild Blue is the first ever release from Talisker to be finished in Atlantic coastal wine casks, adding an extra layer of oak character and depth to the liquid. The whisky-makers selected the Atlantic wine casks from coastal regions for the liquid’s 16-month finishing journey, resulting in a sweetly smoky Scotch whisky that evokes memories of a bonfire on a wild beach. This is a powerful Talisker edition - maritime smoke and deep notes of red fruit form a strong, smooth union of aromas and flavour.

For nearly 200 years, the Talisker distillery has been standing proudly by the sea, embracing the elements in a land of extremes that is the inspiration for the whisky we craft. Now we are launching TALISKER THE WILD BLUE, with each bottle being made using 100% recycled glass from biofuel. Driven by a shared passion for the ocean, Talisker and Blue Marine Foundation are joining forces to provide restoration efforts to coastal wildlife. With a £3 donation from every bottle made, The Wild Blue will raise more than £112,000 globally, to go towards restoring coastal wildlife.

  • APPEARANCE:
A glorious, shining deep amber with reddish lights. The rich colour of rosewood or a freshly opened horse chestnut.

  • NOSE:
Mild and dry in feel, yet rich overall. Tight-packed top notes of fruit and malt suggest malt bread with sultanas, dates and dried figs. Beneath them, a light mineral hint of chalk leads into rousing maritime notes of brine, salt crystals and ship’s rails in a high sea, all on a lightly fruity, winey base, with a hint of pipe tobacco. Adding a little water brings up a smoky note.

  • BODY:
    Medium to full.

  • PALATE:
The creamy-smooth mouthfeel introduces a big taste that starts richly sweet then quickly becomes salty, smoky and fruity, with lush, sweet hints of sultana and fig mid-palate wrapped in rising peppery spice and smokiness. Rich and intense at natural strength, it becomes slightly sweeter, fruitier (suggesting ripe figs again) and spicier if water is added.

  • FINISH:
Long, warming and lightly drying, with a familiar late peppery catch and a most appealing smoky-fruity aftertaste.
